Revue {R}évolution (Gold Star Program) Gold Star

You have attempted to access a call for submissions that is either no longer open to the public or no longer valid. Any currently open public calls will be listed below.

WHO WE ARE

Revue {R}évolution is a scholarly review of poetry, art, philosophy, and mythology based in New York with a branch in Paris. Our purpose is to revive erudition in the Fine Arts, in the tradition of the masters from the Vedic times, the European Renaissance, and the 19th century, when poetry and art flourished once more before the cultural decline triggered by the Industrial Revolution. We also intend to reunite cultures of the East, West, and Africa.

WHO WE PUBLISH

In poetry, philosophy, and art, Revue {R}évolution believes in the authority of the master-disciple relationship, a mirror of the Yogic guru-shishya tradition. Therefore, we expect poets, artists, storytellers, and thinkers who submit to Revue {R}évolution to

  1. belong to a strong tradition, whether literary, artistic, philosophical, or spiritual
  2. display robust intellectual and artistic skills, a penchant for erudition, metaphysical exploration, multilingualism, and universalism,
  3. adopt a transcendental approach in their work and / or show reverence for the Divine, regardless of one’s religious inclinations.

Revue {R}évolution is proudly born and based in New York, but we are also bilingual. We publish francophones and francophiles from all over the world. Visit our French page (linked at the bottom).

BEFORE YOU SUBMIT

We invite you to read the detailed description of our mission and scope (linked at the bottom).

1. Take the time to read Revue {R}évolution regularly: Submitting to a magazine you do not read, know, or understand can result in rejection and wasted time. Please save yourself and us the frustration—Revue {R}évolution provides free and paid articles, so there's no reason not to familiarize yourself with our review if you're seeking publication.

Engaging with Revue {R}évolution involves more than just perusing our editorials—it implies showing curiosity and respect for the poets, thinkers, and artists featured in our publication by reading and reflecting on their work. We can only reciprocate interest in your work if you show a genuine curiosity about the work of your fellow writers and artists.

2. Watch our Submitter playlist on YouTube (linked at the bottom): This playlist will enhance your comprehension of our editorial line and provide writing and research techniques to ensure a successful submission, especially for poets, artists, and storytellers.

Adjust your approach according to your level of experience in thinking, writing, and art. For instance:

  • Philosophers/Academics: If you are an academic considering submission to Revue {R}, you may already possess the skills required for erudite literature. However, you might not be familiar with Revue {R}évolution's unique philosophy based on Samkhya. Therefore, reading Revue {R}évolution regularly & researching documentation on Samkhya & Advaita Vedanta is essential before you submit or prepare a piece for submission.
  • Poets & Storytellers: Similarly, poets, regardless of your experience levels, you may excel in intuitive writing but could find it challenging to express erudition and consistent literary and intellectual refinement within your writing practice. Therefore, reading Revue {R}évolution regularly to cultivate yourself and acquire the erudite's mind and method is essential before you submit or prepare a piece for submission.
  • Artists: We hold our artists to high standards, expecting them to be proficient in drawing and painting techniques, but also to be cultivated and proficient in literary writing. There have been many cultivated artists throughout history, until their abrupt decline at the end of 19th century. Eugène Delacroix, Nicholas Roerich, The Pre-Raphaelites or Elihu Vedder, for example, were cultivated artists. Reflecting and writing were second nature to them. Painting was just their dominant means of creative expression. To submit successfully to Revue {R}évolution, aiming for similar standards, and being able to situate your work in humanity's art historical movements and traditions is essential. Reading Revue {R}évolution and gaining knowledge about art history and the interconnectedness of art, poetry, myth, and philosophy is essential before you submit or prepare a piece for submission.

WHAT WE PUBLISH

These examples illustrate the fundamental principle that underpins Revue {R}évolution's philosophy: a commitment to intellectual, spiritual, and artistic refinement.

Revue {R}évolution celebrates the synergy of poetry, philosophy, art, and myth. We publish:

  • Poems that express nuanced and insightful philosophy, using crafted artistic forms to open the inner eye.
  • Artworks that elevate, illustrating metaphysical truths, in mastered aesthetics and craft, a form of visual poetry.
  • Enlightening and nurturing philosophy that imparts existential power and enriches self-perception.
  • Myths and mythologies that play a pivotal role in the thought process, whether storytellers aim to push the boundaries of myth (like brilliant philosophers honoring Logic), or express the transcendent and elusive Logos that permeates all things in timeless storytelling.

In written, symbolic, and thought form, Revue {R}évolution publishes Clarity, Harmony, and Beauty, which are synonyms of Sattva, the first aspect of reality in Samkhya philosophy. In the act of thought and creation (which depend on one another), Harmony seldom arises spontaneously, rather necessitates a polymathic effort, which isn't merely an assertion or a fashion, but rather the outcome of a mind striving to cultivate itself with humility, and acknowledging the preeminence of a universal Truth waiting to be discovered. In poetry, art, philosophy, and mythology, Revue {R}évolution honors the experience of transcendence.

Please take the time to read us and follow our guidelines. We reject pieces that do not align with our style and mission.

Thank you.
