The Workshop: 2. The Tower: Navigating Academia The Workshop Free Tip Jar Option

We’re collecting Op-Eds and personal essays for $30. We want to boldly imagine new worlds, but we aren’t interested in hate clicks or shock value. Send us your well-considered yet controversial opinions, your thoughtful norm bucking. We welcome your rants about how creative writing shouldn’t be housed in English departments — or anywhere else in the university system! Use a deep dive to get to the root of professor favoritism, argue for an end to all unequal funding even within fully funded programs, or explain why either teaching assistantships or non-teaching fellowships shouldn’t exist. We’re especially interested in hearing from people who deeply regret their graduate-level creative writing degrees or feel like dropping out was the best decision they ever made. Open to anonymous contributions.

Please no pitches for this one. Only finished articles.

Please know that we love tips and donations, and any contribution at all helps us to continue providing our many vital services to emerging writers, including the only accurate fully funded MFAs list online. At the same time, we would never charge you to submit. It is our mission to remain accessible to writers from all backgrounds, including those who don't have the money for submission fees.
