The Echo

You have attempted to access a call for submissions that is either no longer open to the public or no longer valid. Any currently open public calls will be listed below.

The Echo is excited to expand our submissions to a broader group of writers and artists. We are proud to accept submissions from any teenager (ages 13-19). This year, we’re especially interested in publishing pieces relating to growth.

Growth can be…

  • Physical (of you, a character, the world around you, any physical change)
  • Emotional
  • Spiritual
  • Negative
  • Mental
  • Situational
  • Environmental (physical and digital landscapes, current events, etc.)
  • Strengthening (of a relationship, skill, etc.)

Before you submit, please scroll below and familiarize yourself with our guidelines.

We accept poetry, memoirs, short stories and flash fiction in any genre, critical essays, short scripts, art, and photography.

We would like to know a little bit about you. If you are comfortable doing so, please add a short bio on the form:

Evan Sizemore is a senior at Steinbrenner High School. He edits the school literary magazine, and enjoys talking to computers.

For the upcoming 2022-2023 magazine, we want you, yes you to show us

what does intersectionality mean to you?

The Echo wishes to see this in whichever creative form you choose ranging from poetry, flash fiction, and memoirs to short stories, visual art/photography, scripts, and critical essays. So before you submit please familiarize yourselves with our guidelines.

Intersection(s) can be:

  • Age

  • Social group

  • Social class

  • Race

  • Gender

  • Sexuality

  • Economic status

  • Nationality

  • Ethnicity

  • Career

  • Hobbies (sports/athletics)

  • Illnesses (physical and mental)

  • Personality

  • Political affiliation

  • Culture

Do not send:

  • Fanfiction or other derivative works

  • Illegal confessions

  • Unfinished pieces

  • Previously published pieces (including self-published pieces)

  • Work that intends to harm or shame a group

  • Novel length work (see our note below)

Final Notes:

  • Erotica or anything that would earn a rating of R or Mature is a hard sell. So when in doubt, submit

  • Length doesn’t matter it’s how you use ;)

Triggering/Vulgar Language:

  • If a trigger warning is needed make sure it is clear before the piece

  • Censor slurs if needed (when in doubt submit with censors)

  • If a piece is explicitly vulgar, submit with caution

Digital art and photography are preferred. If you submit physical art, submit the highest quality scan/image of your artwork that you can. We are willing to work with artists if the piece(s) are accepted

We welcome both simultaneous submissions, and multiple submissions from the same author. That’s all! Thank you for your interest in submitting to us; If you’re having trouble understanding the theme check us out on Instagram to see what intersectionality means to us and what pieces we hope to see. We’re excited to see your submission!

With love,

The Echo
