About

The mission of LUMINA Literary Journal has always been to create a journal where the experimental and traditional are celebrated together, transforming into something innovative and exciting. Our goal is to be thought-provoking, poignant, eloquent, relevant, and powerful by engaging diverse writers and artists across disciplines, identities, geography, and form. Our core values are mutual respect, communication, honesty, transparency, dedication, efficiency, cooperation, and, of course, passion for excellent literature and art. We will always seek to accumulate bold, beautiful, and new interpretations of the numerous ways humanity exists in the world. As staff members of LUMINA and graduate students of the M.F.A. Writing Program at Sarah Lawrence College, we will work toward the common goal of ensuring that our student-run journal reaches its full potential by following its mission and embodying the core values for readers and contributors. Above all, we are a team and a community of emerging writers and artists that seek to change the world one word at a time.

Before Submitting

We cannot guarantee that the information on this page is correct. It is not unusual for publications to evolve or close without notice. We do our best to keep up, but it isn't always possible. Just remember…

  • Always read the full guidelines provided by the publisher.
  • Try to read at least one previous publication to get a better idea of what the editor would like to see.
  • Unless the publisher's guidelines state otherwise, always use industry standard manuscript formatting.
  • Be professional, patient, and persistent.
