A project of Grist: A Journal of The Literary Arts
About
“Pro forma” often means an established way of doing things, but for this contest, we look for work that explores the relationship between content and form, whether that’s an essay that breaks from traditional expectations, a set of poems from a sonnet sequence, a short story that blends or bends its genre, a hybrid text or a genre-less piece. However you choose to make the most of the form in your writing, we want to see your best work.
Fees Notice: This project charges fees (or requires purchases) for all submissions.

Duotrope listings do not imply endorsement or recommendation of the project being listed. Before submitting, you should use your own judgment to determine whether the project meets your standards.
- Always read the full guidelines provided by the publisher.
- Try to read at least one previous publication to get a better idea of what the editor would like to see.
- Unless the publisher's guidelines state otherwise, always use industry standard manuscript formatting.
- Be professional, patient, and persistent.
