About

Habitat Magazine is a community of passionate, innovative, and thoughtful individuals interested in writing that redefines the lines of genre and form and explores what it means to be a writer in the 21st century. We believe poetry is everything from Hip Hop to surrealism, documentary to tanka. Habitat publishes poetry that moves, informs, and explores the self, structure, and surroundings. We value the ability of fiction, nonfiction, and other narrative forms to show us perspectives other than our own. Habitat provides a home for literature that shows us the unexpected and disrupts the dominant cultural narrative. Habitat prides itself on publishing writers under 40, no matter their credentials, academic history, or background. We want to publish the next generation of great writers, because that’s who we are too.

Before Submitting

We cannot guarantee that the information on this page is correct. It is not unusual for publications to evolve or close without notice. We do our best to keep up, but it isn't always possible. Duotrope listings do not imply endorsement or recommendation of the project being listed. Before submitting, you should use your own judgment to determine whether the project meets your standards.

  • Always read the full guidelines provided by the publisher.
  • Try to read at least one previous publication to get a better idea of what the editor would like to see.
  • Unless the publisher's guidelines state otherwise, always use industry standard manuscript formatting.
  • Be professional, patient, and persistent.
