About

The Halloween season concerns our prayers for the dead, asking the saints for their prayers, mysterious encounters, creepy and/or ghoulish scenarios (usually with a moral), haunted houses and other soured places, ghosts, disguising oneself as strange or wicked to fool demons, and playful trickery — not the promotion of wicked intent or actions (revenge, murder, etc.) Also, no zombies. If you write about vampires, werewolves, witches, and/or other classic seasonal characters, make them peculiar to what has already been done–and show that they are evil and should be avoided, even if in your story they win out over the unwary (Hawthorne’s “The Hollow of the Three Hills” springs to mind). No fan fiction (such as pumpkin-headed men who save Christmas). And, no Day of the Dead (Día de Muertos) narratives.
