About

Newrosis is an online journal dedicated to publishing speculative comics.
Speculative, in this case, is not limited to typical science fiction or fantasy, but covers the broadest sense of transcending reality in some daring, original way, without being overly burdened by the many tropes and cliches that infest comics and speculative fiction alike.

Visual Art Open

Newrosis considers any artwork that:

  • Can plausibly be classified as comics (including single-panel) or sequential art;
  • Tells, or suggests, a story mainly through visual means, without relying on lengthy dialogues—or even better, without any text at all;
  • Expresses original, imaginative ideas, be they surreal, philosophical, absurd, antisocial, satirical, alternative, avant-garde, dark, macabre, weird, or more typical (yet somehow eccentric) science fiction/fantasy;
  • Aspires to timelessness and universality, so that it is free from the contexts of the present time and place and can, at least in theory, communicate with anyone, anywhere, anytime;
  • Was created by a human being without the use of AI tools.
