Apus Vol.2 the Symbiosis Collection

Apus?? is an independent literary magazine and writers' community with a globally based team and roots in the Bay Area, California. It features bilingual diasporic artwork and writing in Chinese and English. The annual print and digital publication welcomes poetry, fiction, nonfiction, essays, visual arts, and creative works that blend genres. Through thoughtfully curated themes and details, Apus provides emerging writers and artists with opportunities to gain experience and exposure while exploring the ideas that shape our present moment.

Apus is looking for words, images, ideas and things on the topic of "symbiosis".

"Symbiosis" means "living together." In biology, it describes the interactions between organisms that rely on or consume each other. But beyond nature, symbiosis shapes our lives — in our relationships, our ties to technology, our battles with illness, and the exchanges between cultures. No one lives in isolation. Every day, we coexist with our environment and those around us. In a world marked by conflict, reflecting on the possibilities of symbiosis feels more urgent than ever.

For the second issue of Apus, we invite creators to explore the theme of "Symbiosis." Possible directions include, but are not limited to:

- Symbiosis between humans and nature;

- Symbiosis between humans and technology;

- Symbiosis between humans and illness;

- The coexistence of diasporic communities and local cultures;

- Urban and suburbia;

- The rebirth of discarded materials;

- Human-to-human symbiosis;

- Reviews of art, film, or literature exploring the theme of symbiosis.


Genres: Fiction, poetry, interviews, nonfiction, and visual art.
Word Count: Prose submissions are recommended to be no longer than 15,000 words. Poetry should not exceed 200 lines.
Pay:
- Prose: $10 USD per 1,000 words
- Poetry: $1 USD per line
- Visual art: Payment will be determined based on the format and quantity of the submitted work.
