Flying Island Journal is the online literary journal of the Indiana Writers Center. We accept submission from Midwest residents and those with significant ties to the Midwest.

Submission guidelines

-Original unpublished work

-Up to 2 flash fiction/nonfiction prose pieces (1000 words or less)

-One fiction or nonfiction prose piece (3000-5000 words)

Format:
-Word document; 12 point font Times New Roman, double spaced.

-Do not put your name or any identifying marks on the ms itself

-Do include a separate page with your name, the title of the story or stories, your contact info and a brief (50-75 words) bio, written in the third person beginning with your name.

-Format: Word document; 12 point font Times New Roman, single spaced.

Flying Island Journal welcomes submissions of up to three previously unpublished poems from writers with ties to the Midwest. We are looking for well-crafted pieces of 50 lines or less in any form or style: poems that move us, challenge us, or intrigue us.

Begin each poem on a separate page and avoid including any personal author information on your document. We appreciate your using Times New Roman 12 point font. Include a short bio written in the third person that begins with your name, and that could appear with your poem upon publication. Simultaneous submissions are encouraged. Notify us if your poem has been accepted elsewhere before we have responded. We look forward to reading your work.
