I want to interview and read pitches for interviews with both emerging and established queer, trans, and gender variant writers with forthcoming or recently published books or chapbooks (no longer than four months ago, please). While I am particularly interested in poetry, a little prose never hurts! I would especially love interviews with folks whose books engage with lived transness, disability, madness, and other forms of marginalization and oppression. My aesthetic tastes vary but I particularly welcome the experimental. Show me a book that plays with genre, form, and language. Pitch me an interview between two rivals. Between two lovers. I aim to publish a minimum of six interviews a year.

The nitty gritty: As fifth wheel press is focused on queer, trans, and gender variant writers, please only pitch interviews in which both interviewer and interviewee are within these communities. To pitch an interview, send bios for you and your interviewee, as well as a synopsis of the work and a sentence or two on what you'd like to speak to them about. Alternatively, feel free to send completed interviews for consideration. If you are a writer with a recent or forthcoming book who is trans or falls under the trans umbrella, feel free to send a synopsis, bio, and review copy of your book in a printable format for me to consider for an ongoing series of interviews with trans writers. All interview pitches will receive a reply; authors sending review copies will hear from me if I'm interested in proceeding with an interview.

Please send up to 1500 words of prose or 1-3 poems (no length limit but please be aware that shorter pieces work better on the web and will likely receive priority). Stephanie Anderson (she/they) is a library worker, grant writer, and union organizer in Baltimore. With writing and collage nominated for Best of the Net, she holds an MS in Professional Writing from Towson University and is the author of SOMEONE ELSE’S FEELINGS (Ghost City Press, 2025). More of their work has been published in Rejection Letters, Burial Magazine, BRUISER, Libre, Artists from Maryland, and others. Find her @whoastanderson everywhere that matters.

Eleanor Ball (she/her; Literature Editor) is a librarian and assistant professor at the University of Northern Iowa. She holds an MLIS from the University of Iowa, and she previously served as a Junior Fellow at the Library of Congress. She writes across literary and speculative genres, and her work often circles themes of grief, the body, religion, and queerness. Her work appears in Barnstorm, Psaltery & Lyre, Strange Horizons, Yalobusha Review, and elsewhere.

Hannah Chaney (she/her, b. 2001; Editorial Intern) is a queer visual artist and poet based on the east coast. Her work acts as a reimagined diary, exploring themes relevant to coming of age, kinship, queerness, introspection, and self-acceptance. Hannah’s approach is honest and sincere, with a mission of representing herself and those featured in her work as authentically as possible. She has been featured in a variety of exhibitions at Maryland Institute College of Art, where she earned her BFA in photography in 2025. Her thesis project, This Pride of Mine, explores drag as a vehicle for self-acceptance and earnest love utilizing portraits of her closest friends and family.

nat raum (they/them, b. 1996; Editor-in-Chief) is a disabled artist, writer, and genderless disaster based on unceded Piscataway and Susquehannock land in Baltimore. They hold a BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art and an MFA from the University of Baltimore. They are the author of this book will not save you, the abyss is staring back, random access memory, and others. Past publishers of their writing and art include Gone Lawn, Split Lip Magazine, beestung, and BRUISER. Find them listening to ambient music, drinking La Croix, or both.

Laurel Reynolds (they/she; Web Editor) is a Twin Cities-based poet with an MA in English & Gender Studies from Brandeis University. Their poems have been featured by Minnesota Public Radio, Devastation Baby, Bullshit Lit, Moss Puppy Magazine, and more, and they are the author of Swallowing the Ash. In her spare time, Laurel can be found cuddling her cat, talking about horror and psychology, and cooking new recipes. Find them on Twitter @laurelgraceee.
