Independence Literary Review

Hello. We’re a new literary magazine of poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, and art.

We’re here to build a prism of creative, independent thought and artistic exploration through words and images. We’re committed to finding the best emerging and established writers and artists interrogating the complexity and nuances of our world, and to amplifying their voices.

We accept topics of all themes, plus each of our issues contains a smaller, themed folio. Our first themed folio, “Healthcare and Healing,” will feature your creative explorations of healthcare, illness, and healing in their manifold forms.

We publish twice a year simultaneously online and in print, and we pay our contributors for their work.

Thank you for being here. We can’t wait to read your work and read with you.

"Healthcare and Healing" Folio Free Open

Closes on Thursday, October 1, 2026 11:59 PM CDT (in 16 days).

While we accept topics of all themes, each of our issues contains a smaller, themed folio. Our first themed folio, “Healthcare and Healing,” will feature your creative explorations of healthcare, illness, and healing in their manifold forms.

We want work that opens new windows of understanding into the body and the mind and the ways they can rupture, be repaired, be reconfigured, and be re-understood. We want to facilitate a conversation about what it means to care for ourselves and others with compassion, and the ways in which art can be a beacon of light in the process.

You may submit within any category if you feel it applies to this folio: poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, and art.

We will also consider entries submitted to our regular categories of poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, and art for this folio.
