Founded in 2025, Pebble is a Chicago small press interested in nature, craft, regionalism, and obscure or unclassifiable excellence.

Pebble seeks to bring beauty to form by encouraging writers of all ages, occupations, and inclinations to try to say something about their life in written word. Nature makes many pebbles for our beach, and how rewarding it is to occasionally polish and leave one of our own.

Pebble looks for thick and stylish description, diaries documenting pleasure in craft or creative work, illustrated life-writing, and your own uncommon idea for a book. If you have attentive and lyrical writing to offer about such topics as: your local cinema, life as a bartender, photography, the decorative arts, lost histories, someone you interact with everyday, or a particular kind of weather, send it over!

OPEN READING PERIOD

NOVEMBER 1-30, 2026

Seeking proposals for books 50-300pp long. Fiction, nonfiction, image + text, formalist experiments, and/or collaborations welcome.

Submission Guidelines:

1. Proposals must be at least one page in length, and must include the following:
a) A description of the project, its form, and its structure
b) Your thoughts on/vision for the book as an object (demonstrative images welcome)
c) A writing plan (when will the writing take place, how long you anticipate you’ll need)
d) A brief bio
2. Submissions must include a recent writing sample and/or an excerpt of the proposed project.
3. Email your proposal and writing sample to [email protected] by November 30 as a .doc, .docx, or .pdf file.
4. Run size and payment to be decided — all authors and illustrators will be paid.
5. There is no cost to submit. We will do our best, but may not be able to respond to all entries.
