Plotopolis (Gold Star Program) Gold Star

Welcome. We're thrilled you're considering submitting to Plotopolis.

Plotopolis strives to publish emotionally-compelling, well-written interactive work (fiction / poetry / non-fiction), and we publish to chat platforms (Facebook Messenger, Slack, Telegram). If you need a basic tutorial as to what we mean, read Creating Interactive Fiction: Tools for Beginners. Interactive works written in Twine are importable into our journal. And please read our submissions page or read one of our stories for context.

There are a number of places to showcase your interactive work, but we are the only submission-based literary journal of interactive fiction. And we are definitely the only Interactive Literary Journal that publishes work to chat platforms (Facebook Messenger, Slack, and Telegram). We pay pro rates.

Welcome.

We consider all genres, but submissions should demonstrate strong writing craft. Additionally, pieces should work well within our publishing venues (currently Facebook Messenger, Slack, Telegram, and a chat-interface on the web). This usually means not overly-long passages, nor use of Twine-only features.

The best way to learn how to write for Plotopolis is to read our documentation or play the 'About Plotopolis' game. We accept interactive fiction, non-fiction, or poetry.

Here are a few key points:

  • This submission manager does not accept .twee files. If you're submitting a .twee file - either rename it to project-name.twee.txt, or send us a filesharing link. (If you're not familiar with with .twee -- Twine is a great way to write an interactive story and exports to .twee format).
  • We also accept proposals - a summary of the piece, what branches might be like, and a cover letter, please.
  • If you're coming from traditional literature (welcome!), then Emily Short has a fantastic post on 'narrative design'.
  • We take first world serial rights, and we pay pro rates (8 cents/word - though we may make exceptions if text is heavily duplicated). We will consider some 'reprint' or adapted works. Please query us first.
  • It's a new platform and we're new to this! Please consider contacting us with questions or thoughts before submitting.

Important: This submission manager does not accept .twee files. If you're submitting a .twee file - either rename it to project-name.twee.txt, or send us a file-sharing link. Otherwise, feel free to send a project *proposal* in .docx or .pages containing a sample chapter and a proposal for the work.
