Revista Letrare

Founded in 1943 and now based in Brussels, Revista Letrare is the oldest Albanian literary review, a publication that has borne witness to the evolution of Albanian letters across regimes, borders, and generations. Today, it stands as a bridge between languages, committed to publishing literature that transcends the local and speaks with clarity, force, and beauty to a broader human condition.

We welcome work that dares to be emotionally honest, formally necessary, and intellectually unafraid. While our mission remains rooted in promoting Albanian literature, we are open to exceptional voices in English and other languages—voices that can stand beside the enduring literary tradition we continue to cultivate.

To be published by Revista Letrare is a rare distinction. We publish only a select number of works each year, chosen for their depth, originality, and resonance. We are drawn to writing that pushes boundaries without abandoning craft, and to authors—emerging or established—who recognize the weight and responsibility of the written word.

If your work is accepted, it must be translated into Albanian. We offer translation grants for the most distinguished submissions. For those who do not fall under this category, we are happy to recommend a shortlist of trusted literary translators. We do not republish work that has previously appeared in Albanian, but we do consider previously published pieces in other languages, provided they have not reached an Albanian audience.

Albanian is a small language—yet one of the oldest in Europe, and perhaps the oldest. Publication in Revista Letrare is not merely a credit; it is an invitation to join a long and serious conversation about literature, culture, and the role of language in shaping human experience.

Submissions & Guidelines

Revista Letrare is the oldest Albanian literary review, first printed in 1943, and now based in Brussels, devoted to publishing poetry, fiction, essays, and literary reflections that resonate across languages and cultures. While our primary editorial focus is on Albanian writers, we welcome submissions from English and other languages for evaluation.

What We Publish

We are interested in literary work that values emotional clarity, stylistic necessity, and intellectual boldness. We accept:

Poetry (up to 5 poems)
Short Fiction (up to 4,000 words)
Literary Essays and Commentary (up to 3,000 words)

We publish both emerging and established voices, and we encourage submissions that push boundaries while maintaining formal and narrative discipline.

Language & Translation Policy

You may submit your work in English or another language.
If your work is accepted, an Albanian translation will be required prior to publication.

If you do not speak Albanian, we can recommend trusted literary translators who work closely with our editorial team.

We do not accept submissions that have already been published in Albanian.
However, we do accept previously published work in other languages, provided it has not appeared in Albanian, in print or online.

Submission Guidelines

Submit your work as a .doc/.docx.
Include a short cover letter with your name, country of residence, and a 50–100-word bio.
Albanian translation is not required at the time of submission.

Rights & Payment

We request first Albanian-language serial rights and non-exclusive archival rights for multilingual publication.
Copyright remains with the author.
We do not offer monetary compensation.
However, publication in Revista Letrare is an excellent opportunity to expand your publishing portfolio.
