Sandpiper Review (Gold Star Program) Gold Star

Sandpiper Review is an annual publication staffed by undergraduates at Stony Brook University. We seek to publish the work of undergraduate writers and artists from coast to coast. Our general submission period runs from September 19th - January 1st. As a magazine, we value curiosity, diversity, and artistic integrity. Just as the sandpiper bird explores the beach with its scuttling legs and sharp beak, we are eager to find treasures that excite us.

Writers are encouraged to include a short bio of under 100 words.

We accept multiple submissions, but please notify us if your work is placed elsewhere.

Please format written submissions with double spacing and Times New Roman font.

Fiction:

We accept short stories of up to 4,000 words. We are looking for stories that move us, intrigue us, and show us lines we wish we'd written ourselves. Are you experimental? Literary? However you define yourself, we'd love to see it. We aren't looking for genre writing (horror, erotica, fan fiction,) but we aren't opposed to original speculative fiction, either.

Flash Fiction:

Flash fiction, to us, is anything under 400 words. Writers can submit up to three flash fiction pieces at a time.

Poetry:

We accept up to three poems per submission. Please keep individual poems under two pages each.

Creative Nonfiction:

We accept creative nonfiction up to 4,000 words. Creative nonfiction can include any writing that prods at the world with a fresh authentic perspective. This includes, but is not limited to: memoir, essay, or a review of any recently released media.

Art:

If it's 2D, we want to see it. Artists can submit up to three separate images per submission period. Please make sure to include appropriate credits (title, medium, dimensions, year) when submitting. It would be wise to ensure submissions are at least 300 dpi and in an accessible .jpg format.

There are no active public submission calls for this project.
