Scribeworth: a literature & arts magazine

At Scribeworth, we’re always on the lookout for fresh voices and compelling narratives that push the boundaries of popular fiction, literary fiction, creative non-fiction, and poetry. Whether you’re an emerging writer or an established author, we invite you to share your work with us for publication consideration. We publish on a quarterly basis: March, June, September, December.

Submission Deadlines for Each Issue:
For the Spring Issue: Submissions are accepted from October 1 to November 30.
For the Autumn Issue: Submissions are accepted from April 1 to May 31.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Fiction: We appreciate nuanced stories that explore the human condition, delving deep into character development and offering layered, thought-provoking themes. Whether your work is introspective, experimental, or minimalist, we’re interested in prose that pushes boundaries and evokes a strong emotional or intellectual response from the reader.

Poetry: Send us poems that make us feel. We are especially drawn to free verse, but we appreciate any work that moves us emotionally and showcases a mastery of language.

Creative Non-Fiction: If you have a true story to tell that is engaging and resonates with universal themes, we’d love to read it. We seek essays and memoirs that offer new perspectives and thoughtful reflections on life experiences.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES FOR WRITTEN WORKS

Language:

We only accept submissions that are in English.

Word Count:

• Poetry: Up to three poems per entry—10-50 lines each (single spaced)
• Short stories: Up to two stories per entry—500 to 2,000 words (double spaced)
• Non-fiction essays: Up to two essays per entry—1,000 to 2,000 words (double spaced)

Format:

• Submit your work in .docx or .doc format. Submit each piece as a separate file to enable you to withdraw a specific work that has been accepted elsewhere.

Originality:

• We only accept previously unpublished work.
• We do not accept AI-generated or AI-assisted work. We prefer the work of humans.
• We accept simultaneous submissions, but we ask that you notify us immediately if your work is accepted elsewhere. Please withdraw the piece through our submission portal to avoid any conflicts.
  

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES FOR VISUAL WORKS

We are seeking striking, thought-provoking visual art and photography that captivates and complements our digital publication. Whether your work explores bold, abstract ideas or quiet, intimate moments, we welcome submissions that inspire, challenge, and connect with our readers.

• Submit 3-5 high-resolution pieces (PNG or JPEG). Each file should not exceed 10MB.
• Artwork must have a minimum resolution of 300 dpi for print-quality clarity.
• Images should be at least 2000 pixels on the longest side to ensure sharpness and compatibility with digital displays.
• Include a brief description (50-150 words) of each piece – the inspiration, medium, and any relevant context.
• Files should be labeled with your name and the title of the piece (e.g., JaneDoe_Reflections.jpg).
• Provide a short artist bio (100-150 words) along with links to your portfolio or website.
• All work must be original. If submitted elsewhere, please inform us if your piece is accepted by another publication.
• Submit each piece as a separate file to enable you to withdraw a specific work that has been accepted elsewhere.

Your work will be featured alongside emerging and established voices in poetry, fiction, and creative non-fiction. We aim to create a vibrant intersection of literature and art, offering readers a fully immersive experience. We look forward to seeing the world through your lens.

BIOGRAPHY

Provide a bio with your submission. A carefully crafted bio is an important part of your submission. It should adhere to these guidelines:

1. Length – Keep the bio between 50-100 words.
2. Tone and Style – Write in third person and maintain a professional yet approachable tone.
3. Content –
   • Who You Are – Begin with your name, artistic discipline, and a brief description of your work.
   • Background – Mention relevant education, exhibitions, publications, or awards.
   • Themes and Influences – Highlight recurring themes, inspirations, or artistic influences.
   • Current Projects – Reference ongoing or upcoming projects, residencies, or collaborations.
   • Location – Include where you are based.
4. Contact and Portfolio – End with a link to your website, portfolio, or social media where viewers can explore more of your work.

PUBLICATION RIGHTS AND COMPENSATION

• By submitting, you grant Scribeworth first publication rights. All other rights revert to the author upon publication, and we kindly ask for acknowledgment if the work is republished elsewhere.

Payment

• Scribeworth is currently unable to offer monetary compensation for accepted submissions. However, your work will be featured prominently in our digital publication, reaching an engaged audience of literary enthusiasts. It will also be considered for inclusion in our print anthology.
• By submitting, you acknowledge that if your work is accepted, Scribeworth retains the right to publish your work in both print and digital editions. Contributors receive no payment for accepted work. Proceeds from any journal sales support the continuation of the publication and no royalties are paid to contributors.
