Studies in the Fantastic/Tales of the Fantastic The University of Tampa Press (Gold Star Program) Gold Star

Studies in the Fantastic is a journal devoted to the Speculative, Fantastic, and Weird in literature and other arts. It publishes work from scholars throughout the world and sustains a lively dialogue within an expanding field that includes film, video, games, comics, graphic novels, digital media, and both traditional and innovative literary modes. Although grounded in literary studies, we are especially interested in articles examining genres and media that have been underrepresented in humanistic scholarship. Subjects may include, but are not limited to weird fiction, science/speculative fiction, fantasy, video games, architecture, science writing, futurism, and technocracy.

We are pleased to announce our latest special edition of fiction, “Tales of the Fantastic.” Our goal in producing fiction issues is to make connections between scholars and creators. We want to provide our readership with works that explore and expand the boundaries of horror, fantasy, and science fiction, to inspire curiosity and drive scholarly investigation. We seek thought-provoking stories that capture readers’ attention and leave them looking at the world in new ways. Studies in the Fantastic welcomes diverse voices and innovative approaches to literature. If it’s weird and meaningful, it might be a good fit for “Tales of the Fantastic.”

Submissions for the special fiction edition are open until September 15 for works up to 5000 words. Use Shunn’s Modern Manuscript Format and include a brief cover letter. Send inquiries to [email protected].

All submissions are free, and US-based contributors will receive a free copy of the printed issue.
