Approach to the Meaning Still Point

We want to help anyone who is interested in poetry, regardless of their reasons or resources. As a community, we will sit with your work, and you will sit with our work and the work of others, at the still point of the turning world.

"Approach to the Meaning" is our online journal, published biannually.

Submissions for Issue 2 Free Open

Closes on Monday, November 30, 2026 11:59 PM EST (in 26 days).

    What We Seek:

    • Poetry: We are looking for rigorous poetry across all forms. We value precision, linguistic stakes, and work that exhibits deftness. Show an awareness of literature by not simply repeating it.
    • Poetry Book Reviews: We seek deep-dive critiques (750–1,500 words) of recent collections (preferably published within the last two years). We favor reviews that move beyond summary to engage with the mechanics and cultural impact of the text.
    • Art & Photography: We’re not looking for illustrations. We want to showcase artists.

    The Editorial Dialogue

Unique to Still Point is our commitment to a conversation between editor and artist. For selected works, editors may provide brief commentaries on the successes of the piece. Additionally, we may invite contributors to engage in a targeted exchange, answering specific questions regarding the choices and impetus behind their work.

    Submission Guidelines:

    • Poetry: Submit 3–5 poems in a single Word document.
    • Reviews: Submit a complete and copyedited review in a Word document.
    • Art/Photography: Submit a link to a portfolio of 5–10 high-resolution images and an artist’s statement.
    • Simultaneous submissions allowed. Please notify us as soon as your work is accepted elsewhere.
    • We ask that your submissions be unpublished. Please refer to the “uncurated” standard as laid out here:https://litmagnews.substack.com/p/uncurated-the-case-for-a-new-term
    • We currently do not pay for publication. Nor do we charge for submissions, or to read our journal.
