Artists from Maryland Gold Star Program Gold Star

Artists from Maryland intends to highlight the creativity of the state of Maryland. Through creative writing, visual art, and anything experimental that can be shown on a page, we want to see how Maryland influences you as a creative. From photographs of your life to poetry about the Inner Harbor, if it stems from your life in Maryland in some way, we'd love to see it! We intend to platform and celebrate artists residing somewhere in Maryland.

Micro Collections Temp Closed

We are looking for micro collections (collections with 15 pages or less of writing and/or art) to publish!

We digitally publish 2 to 4 micro collections during the following months: March, June, September, and December.

Submit a single .pdf or .doc/.docx file with a title page and your art/writing. If we choose to work with you, we'll ask for the rest of the details from you.

If you are accepted, you will receive the following:

$15 USD (paid through Zelle or PayPal)
Digital publication on Artists from Maryland's itch.io page (free download)

NOTE: Submissions DO NOT have to be directly about Maryland. Many accepted pieces have done so, but it's not a requirement. The only requirement is that you, as an artist, have a connection to Maryland.

FICTION/NONFICTION

AFM loves stories about the Inner Harbor, stories about driving during rush hour, stories about going to the park—anything about Maryland (and your life in it) is welcome! Just keep it under 5,000 (five thousand) words or 5 stories—whichever comes first.

POETRY

AFM loves poems about that local coffee shop down the street from your house, poems about anything, really! We'd love to read anything about Maryland or your life in it! Keep it to 10 poems or less, or 12 pages—whichever comes first.

VISUAL ART

AFM loves photos of the tree you saw on your walk and paintings of the forest you camped in years ago! We'd love to see any form of visual art that shows your appreciation of Maryland. Keep it to 5 pieces of art.
