Purple Ink Press (PIP) Open Reading Period for Full-Length Poetry and Hybrid Collections

Guidelines:

  • 62-90 pages are preferred, but we will consider longer manuscripts.
  • Your submission file should include
  • a table of contents,
  • numbered pages
  • and, if applicable, an acknowledgment of previously published poems.
  • In general, manuscripts should be in an easy-to-read font such as Times New Roman, Garamond, Georgia, or Calibri. No, Helvetica, it is difficult to read.
  • We understand that some work may have unusual formatting or color choices and will not conform to the requested formatting above. That is fine, but most manuscripts should be formatted as we recommend above.

Poets selected to be published by Purple Ink Press:

  • receive royalties,
  • coordination of an in-person book launch,
  • a profit-sharing plan if there is a Kickstarter campaign or additional projects, such as broadsides.
  • Published manuscripts will receive national and international distribution on all major book-selling platforms with publicity and promotion.

Poets published by PIP are expected to participate in the promotion of their books.

A reading fee of $12 (U.S.) is requested for each submission. Multiple submissions are accepted, provided each submission is accompanied by a separate reading fee.

Poetry Feedback Longer Poems or Multiple poems Fee: usd $149.00 Open

  • Up to 20 pages in length (single-spaced), to include at most 20 poems.
  • You will receive an editorial letter detailing the strengths of your work and areas for improvement.
  • You would also receive line notes for each poem.

We are partial to well-done poems that play with form, imagery, and resonate with the poet’s original voice.

We love:
traditional forms that are twisted into something new
words that sail across the page and play with white space
words that are in conversation with images
work that starts on the page and links to music, spoken work
