Tender Masculinities Purple Ink Press (Gold Star Program) Gold Star This is a call for submissions of related works to be published on the Purple Ink website based on the theme of tender masculinities. We are looking for poetry, fiction, nonfiction, hybrid works , and visual art. Tender and masculine are not concepts often seen together, but tenderness is also a part of masculinity. The overarching message of our culture is that there is only one kind of masculinity: a brutal, sometimes violent, stoic, cold, ego-driven version that makes a joke out of everything. The truth is there are many versions of what is masculine. We invite you to explore what is tender. We are not sure what we will end up with and are excited to see your work. Interpret the theme however you like. We want to feature surprising and unexpected moments. This call is open to everyone and can be about a personal experience or about someone you know. It can be about a father, a mother who was both mother and father, stepping into your own tender masculinity. Surprise us! There is no fee to submit, but we would appreciate a tip. It helps us to feature the unexpected work and underrepresented poets and authors. This call closes on September 30th. Jude Marr is the editor for this project.
