Baltimore Gothic: Baltimore Gothic Issue 2 Gold Star Program Gold Star Fee: usd $2.00 Deadline: Monday, November 30, 2026 11:59 PM EST (in 58 days). SUBMISSIONS OPEN October 1st to November 30th. Baltimore Gothic is a Baltimore based literary magazine with an interest in all things Southern and Gothic. We love authors who live in the spirit of Edgar Allan Poe, Flannery O’Connor and William Faulkner. We want short stories that capture the essence of the human spirit, including its darkness and decay. We seek out perfectly imperfect protagonists, antagonists and Anti-heroes. We are not a slasher magazine. We are inspired by the gothic tradition. Think “A Rose for Abigail,” not “Friday the 13th.” We love stories that center around modern themes and say something new about the human condition. We seek pieces that capture the good, the bad, and the ugly of being human. Theme: Sin and Salvation The Sin and Salvation issue delves into the South’s complex relationship with religion, where fervent spirituality and human frailty collide in a haunting tapestry of redemption and damnation. This theme explores the tension between devout faith and moral decay. Please keep on theme for the Print Issue 2. We have general rolling online submissions throughout the year. What we want: We want stories that probe the psyche of fanatical preachers, hypocritical congregations, and lost souls grappling with guilt, divine judgment, or supernatural retribution. We want tales of fire-and-brimstone sermons masking dark secrets, backwoods revivals spiraling into chaos, and individuals wrestling with personal demons in the shadow of a judgmental deity. This issue should capture the eerie beauty of a South torn between divine grace and its own dark heart.Fiction — 1500 to 5000 words. Please submit between 1 and 3 works of fiction. We do not accept flash at this time. All print edition submissions are $2 each. We are trying to fund the print issue. We are trying to ensure that this journal can be published in print and online.
