ManicWorld Magazine

Welcome to ManicWorld Magazine, where creativity meets insanity. As a UK-based international publication, our goal is to unearth, in every way we can, what happens when creatives work together rather than alone. What happens when we remove the solitude of creativity?

What we are reading

Our poetry and short story sections are open all year round. We read for literary quality and artistic merit above anything else, and we are drawn to work that reaches across the whole range of human emotion and experience. Everything we publish must be suitable for a general audience, so please keep that in mind before you send.

Our other projects, among them Creative Match, The Bridge Editions and our exhibitions, open at set points in the year with calls of their own. We announce those in Letters from ManicWorld, our fortnightly newsletter, and on our website.

Limits

Short fiction: up to 3,000 words per piece. Poetry: up to 3 poems per submission, with no single poem exceeding 20 lines.

Before you submit

Please send your work as a Word document rather than a PDF, with all your pieces in a single file. Alongside the writing we ask for a short bio, with links to your website and social media in its final line, a photograph of yourself, and one non-copyrighted image for each piece that speaks to its theme. We do not accept AI-generated or AI-assisted images, and writing made with AI assistance will not be considered.

We aim to respond within 30 days, and accepted work is usually published within 4 weeks of its final review (mostly).

A note on payment

ManicWorld is unfunded and digital-only, and we are not currently able to pay contributors. Every published writer receives an author page on our website, and we share each new piece across our social channels the moment it goes live.

Poetry & Short Stories Free Tip Jar Option Open

At ManicWorld Magazine, we are always on the lookout for prospective maniacs to join our community and express themselves with our platform. If you think you are manic enough to join us, here’s how to do it.
What we publish: Poetry and short stories.
Who can submit: Writers from anywhere in the world. First-timers and seasoned authors are equally welcome.
When: All year round. There’s no deadline, so send your work whenever it’s ready.
How long it takes: We review new submissions within 30 days, and accepted work is usually published within a week of the final review.
What to expect: Your work will be published online. We don’t currently pay contributors, and every one of our editors is a volunteer, here because they love what you make.
How to submit: Use the form at the bottom of this page. You’ll need your piece as a Word document (not a PDF), a short bio, an author photo, and one image for each piece, which must be your own or copyright-free and never AI-generated.

Please note: all submissions undergo editorial review, and selection is based on literary quality and artistic merit. Accepted submissions are left to the discretion of the editor.

What We’re Looking For

Short stories: Stories about whatever matters to you, from grief and girlhood to war, nature, love and the strange business of living. Literary, speculative, historical or something we don’t yet have a word for: if it’s alive on the page, we want to read it.
Poetry: Poems that capture the whole spectrum of human emotion and experience, in any form that suits them. We ask that all work stay PG-rated.
Made it with someone else? Collaborative pieces are as welcome as work made alone, because what happens when creatives work together is the question this whole magazine is built around. Just let us know everyone involved when you submit.

Submission Guidelines

To ensure a smooth submission process, please follow these guidelines:
You can send us poetry or short stories at any time of year. We review new submissions within 30 days, and once a piece is accepted, we aim to publish it within a week of the final review.
Preparing your submission
Please send your poem or short story as a Word document, not a PDF. If you’re submitting poetry and can’t attach a file, you can paste the poem into the body of your email instead. Poetry and short stories share the same form.
What to include
Your name
The category: poetry or prose
The theme, such as death, horror or identity
One image for each piece, representing its theme. It must be copyright-free and must not be AI-generated or AI-assisted.
An image for your author profile. This can be a photo of yourself or anything else you’d like to represent you.
Links to your website and social media, if you have them, in the last line of your bio
If anything on this list is missing, your submission will be delayed and may not be accepted.

Our standards
We publish PG-rated work only, and any submission created with the help of AI will be rejected.
Sharing your work
Once your piece is live, we’d love you to share it on your own social media and anywhere else you like.

We do not receive funding; therefore, we only publish digitally and we do not currently offer monetary payment. All editors serve on a voluntary basis.
