The New York Quarterly The New York Quarterly Foundation, Inc.

New York Quarterly seeks work that advances the magazine’s history of publishing an eclectic cross-section of contemporary American poetry since its founding by William Packard in 1969. NYQ looks for poems that offer fresh perspectives, a careful attention to craft, and that strive to be accessible to readers. We believe that poetry, especially work that locates itself outside the mainstream literary establishment, is an opportunity to advance social consciousness and should be experienced by all.

New York Quarterly wishes to provide a venue for poets to present their work merited solely upon the craft of a poem itself, not upon the credentials of the poet, regardless of the style or content, or of the poet’s religious affiliation, race/ethnicity, sex, class, nationality, age, education, or school of thought.

Our reading period is open on a rolling basis. We accept online submissions (3-5 poems per submission) through Submittable and Duosuma. We accept simultaneous submissions, but please promptly notify us if your work is accepted elsewhere.
