Founded in 1999, Red River Review is an independent online literary arts journal publishing poetry, short fiction, creative nonfiction, hybrid work, photography, and visual art originating in physical media.

We welcome work from emerging and established writers and artists across a wide range of subjects, styles, and approaches. We are especially drawn to work that takes creative and imaginative risks — work that creates a sense of encounter with a distinct voice, image, question, atmosphere, or way of seeing.

Red River Review is now accepting submissions for Issue 78.

We publish poetry, short fiction, creative nonfiction, hybrid work, and visual art. We are interested in work distinguished by voice, craft, originality, and artistic intention—work that feels fully realized and rewards close attention.

We welcome a range of subjects, aesthetics, literary traditions, and approaches from emerging and established writers and artists.

Submissions open August 31 and close October 15, 2026.

General Guidelines

Submit only original, unpublished work that is complete and ready for publication.
We welcome simultaneous submissions. If your work is accepted elsewhere, please withdraw it promptly or notify us immediately if only part of a submission is no longer available.
Please submit to one category at a time and wait for a response before submitting additional work in that category.
Red River Review reviews submissions anonymously. Do not include your name, biography, contact information, or other identifying information in your manuscript or uploaded file. Editorial decisions are made before contributor identities are revealed.
If your work is accepted, we will contact you to request a biography and other contributor materials for publication and promotion.
Red River Review does not accept work created, written, generated, or substantially assisted by artificial intelligence.
By submitting, you confirm that the work is your original creation, that you hold all rights to it, and that you have the authority to grant Red River Review permission to publish it if accepted.
