About

Writing with Care John Updike once said, "Creativity is merely a plus name for regular activity. Any activity becomes creative when the doer cares about doing it right, or better." At Driftwood Press, we are actively searching for artists who care about doing it right, or better. Driftwood Press is an independent publisher and literary magazine founded in Tampa, FL in 2013; currently, we have staff members in Austin, Tampa, Tallahassee, New York City, Broomfield, Attica, and West Chester. We publish a variety of genres including poetry, fiction, comics, visual art, and more.

Fees Notice: This project charges fees (or requires purchases) for some submissions. Look for the fees icon.

Fiction Temp Closed

Our stories share little in common outside of a love of language; well-crafted sentences and honed rhythm are a must for Driftwood contributors. Perhaps unsurprisingly, some of our favorite authors are William Faulkner, Virginia Woolf, Michael Cunningham, John Updike, Don Delillo, Graham Greene, and James Joyce. We stray away from young adult, fantasy, romance, novel chapters, and mainstream mystery fiction. While we're interested in experimentalism and stream of consciousness (not auto-writing), we expect a story to have narrative momentum.
