About

1,833 members set this magazine as a Favorite.

The Adroit Journal has its eyes focused ahead, showcasing what its global staff of emerging writers sees as the future of poetry, prose, and art. Since inception, the journal has featured the voices of Kaveh Akbar, Fatimah Asghar, Jericho Brown, NoViolet Bulawayo, K-Ming Chang, Victoria Chang, Mark Doty, Rita Dove, Eve L. Ewing, Terrance Hayes, Dorianne Laux, Edith Pearlman, D. A. Powell, Justin Phillip Reed, Danez Smith, Ned Vizzini, Ocean Vuong, C Pam Zhang, and (many, many!) more. Recent work from the journal has been featured in The New York Times, Best American Poetry, Pushcart Prizes: Best of the Small Presses, Poetry Daily, Best of the Net, Best New Poets, and Verse Daily, and has been noted in Best American Essays, Best American Mystery & Suspense, and Best American Nonrequired Reading. We’re looking for work that’s bizarre, authentic, subtle, outrageous, indefinable, raw, paradoxical. We’ve got our eyes on the horizon. Send us writing that lives just between the land and the sky.

Important: Submissions of interviews and reviews remain open when general submissions are closed.

Before Submitting

We cannot guarantee that the information on this page is correct. It is not unusual for publications to evolve or close without notice. We do our best to keep up, but it isn't always possible. Duotrope listings do not imply endorsement or recommendation of the project being listed. Before submitting, you should use your own judgment to determine whether the project meets your standards.

  • Always read the full guidelines provided by the publisher.
  • Try to read at least one previous publication to get a better idea of what the editor would like to see.
  • Unless the publisher's guidelines state otherwise, always use industry standard manuscript formatting.
  • Be professional, patient, and persistent.
