BreakBread Literacy ProjectAbout this OrganizationThere's been plenty of talk about the lack of diversity in publishing, but even in this golden age of writing, with many admirable efforts underway, the top levels of literary publishing still holds significant economic and social capital; and there are too few people of color, too few first-generation college grads, and too few people from low-income backgrounds at the editors table. BreakBread seeks to change the face of literary publishing through an intentional approach to inclusivity that places a diverse staff of collaborators at every level: editorial, apprentice, and student staff. BreakBread is committed to community outreach that puts the magazine in the hands of youth across the country with limited access to the "literary scene." This project creates opportunities for youth to participate in writing as self-determining change agents and aesthetic experts. Our apprenticeships, workshops, and readings offer young creatives the opportunity to develop skills that make them competitive with students who have socio-economic capital and levels the playing field.Country: United StatesEstablished in: 2020Publishing ProjectsThis organization accepts submissions for the following active projects:Sorry, no active projects were found. These inactive listings for projects were found: BreakBread Magazine BELIEVED DEFUNCTVillena Aldama Art & Writing Contest CLOSED Cookie Consent: This site uses secure first-party cookies for essential, preference-setting, and statistical purposes.
