Born and raised in Washington, DC, Kathy Hessmer is the daughter of two refugees from the rural South. As an adult, Kathy has called Georgia, Alabama, Virginia, and other exotic locations around the globe home. She is the recipient of multiple awards for her fiction, nonfiction, and poetry. Kathy lives and writes in Virginia Beach, Virginia where the Chesapeake Bay and Atlantic Ocean converge and inspire her.
