Robert Charles Howard earned his Bachelors degree in Music from Eastern Michigan University in 1967. He received his Master’s of Music degree in composition from Michigan State University in 1970. He studied piano with Genia Nemenoff, composition with Jere Hutcheson and H. Owen Reed, and conducting with Dennis Burkh. He studied composition with Robert Wykes and conducting with George Silfies at Washington University.

He has been writing poetry since 2004 and has published two books, Unity Tree and From the Mountains to the Sea.

Mr. Howard retired as Associate Professor of Music at St. Louis Community College at Meramec in 2001 after 31 years; where he served as conductor of the Meramec Symphony and Meramec Chorale. He preceded Leon Burke as Choir Director at Eliot Unitarian Chapel where he also directed the Greenleaf Singers for two years. He conducted the Belleville Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorale for 21 years.

Mr. Howard resides in Estes Park CO with his wife, Robin
