Andrea Lingenfelter is a poet and award-winning translator of contemporary Chinese-language poetry and fiction (and occasionally film subtitles). Poems most recently published in Plume and in the 2025 Gunpowder Press anthology of poems by Californian women. Published translations include: Farewell My Concubine (Lilian Lee); Candy (Mian Mian); The Changing Room (poetry by Zhai Yongming); The Kite Family (short fiction by Hon Lai Chu); A Summer Day in the Company of Ghosts (poetry by Wang Yin). She has taught at UC Davis, the University of San Francisco, and Hugo House, as well as leading intensive translation courses for the British Council on Literary Translation. Based in Northern California, she is currently writing a memoir.
