Interview with Rebecca J Blondin

Do you read literary journals and magazines regularly? If so, which are your favorites?

I wish I read them more than I do.

Who are your literary (or artistic) heroes?

Jane Austen. Geoffrey Chaucer. Willa Cather. Terry Pratchett. Barbara Kingsolver. The folks who passed down the world's ancient mythologies into the present.

What makes you procrastinate when you could be doing your creative work? What are your strategies for finding focus?

Scrolling on my phone. I really wish this hasn't become a staple of modern life and I envy the folks who haven't fallen prey to this particular vice. What a time suck!

Where do you find inspiration?

Nature. Public transportation. Classic literature & Classical literature. Mythology of various cultures. My own dreams and nightmares.

If you could choose to be born in any era, which one would you choose and why?

1890s: Victorian Age, Belle Époque, Gilded Age, Second Industrial Revolution. Progressive Era. I'm seeing history repeating itself now, and I'd like to go back in time and check out the original.

For your first draft (or sketch), do you prefer analog or digital tools, or a mix?

I prefer a spreadsheet.

Do you incorporate generative AI/LLMs into your creative process? If so, how?

NOPE.

Are you an unreliable narrator?

I am honest to a fault, and I think creating an unreliable narrator would be super challenging for me.
