Sharmila Cohen Non-Member Joined 2022 Deeply serious humor and absurdityFiction Poetry Sharmila Cohen is a poet and literary translator. Her debut poetry collection, Tiny Evolutions, won the Ottoline Prize and is forthcoming from Fence Books in Fall 2027. Her work has been featured in publications such as Lana Turner, BOMB, Harpers, Lit Hub and Epiphany. Her English translation of The High-Rise Diver (Die Hochhausspringerin) by Julia von Lucadou (World Editions) was shortlisted for the prestigious Society of Authors Schlegel-Tieck Prize in 2022. Along with Paul Legault, she co-founded Telephone Books, an interdisciplinary press dedicated to experimental translation. Originally from New York, Cohen moved to Berlin in 2011 as a Fulbright Scholar to complete a creative literary project. She now splits her time between both cities.
