Becky Hansen Non-Member New Celtic, dark and moody...then there's my fiction.Fiction Being a pharmacist brings me money, and being a writer brings me joy. I started writing fiction in my fifties, and since then, I have had many moments when I threw up my hands and quit. For reasons I don't understand, I always come back to it. When I strike that balance of darkness, dread, and intelligence in my writing, the sense of triumph is like an addictive drug. Add humor, and it's the chef's kiss. Before becoming a pharmacist, I worked as a scientist in biotech, so research is my jam. While I try to not overwhelm my reader with superfluous details, I do my research. Often my settings are places I've been to. I'm big on authenticity; if my character has a specific trait or hobby, I read up on it to get the details right. That desire for accuracy carries over from my demands as a reader. I have no problem suspending my beliefs for vampires and ghosts, but if the ghost is haunting the basement of a New Orleans mansion, I have a problem. New Orleans mansions don't have basements.
