Barbara Horiuchi is a Sansei (third-generation) Japanese American poet, writer, and visual artist who produces works of resistance. Drawing from an archive of family histories and oral and personal documentation, she explores ancestral trauma and the afterlife of WWII Japanese American incarceration experienced by her family at Gila River, Heart Mountain, Manzanar, and Tule Lake War Relocation Camps. Her creative choices are deeply influenced by the politics of immigration, exclusion, marginalization, injustice, and assimilation, forces that persist into another century. She earned an MFA in pictorial art from San Jose State University. Born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, she now lives on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State.
