Artist uniting Figuration and Abstraction

Visual Art

Brooke McGowen is a painter based in Northern California whose practice involves squirting paint from bottles to evoke figures and landscapes. The interaction of flowing color describes a figurative situation, leaving much to the viewer’s imagination. Fluid paint swirls and mingles following the principles of fluid dynamics.

Brooke McGowen studied painting at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and at the Art Academy in Vienna, Austria. After living in Austria, Germany and Portugal, the artist returned to New York City in 2008 where she had numerous group and solo shows.

In 2018 McGowen moved to a remote area of Northern California where she lives with her husband and their Portuguese Mastiffs. She has had shows in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Sacramento and Redding. She currently has a solo show of her Northern California landscapes at the Shasta County Arts Council in Redding.
