Charlene E. Holkenbrink-Monk is a scholar, writer, and adventurer. She finds love and excitement in the grand and the seemingly mundane, whether she is living in Spain, as she did in 2025 as a Fulbright U.S. Scholar, or finding a neighborhood mural in San Diego, where she has lived for most of her life. She holds a Ph.D. in Education and researches visual methodologies, knowledge production and ancestral memory, multiracial identity, and disability within education, and an M.A. in Sociology, which she has taught for 10 years. She has also taught secondary humanities, helping students craft their own stories and develop perspectives beyond dominant narratives. Her work extends beyond academia, with a love of fiction and poetry writing, where she further explores the ideas of ancestral memory, systemic change, and critical commentary on social conditions and situations. In her free time, she likes to find new places with her kids and loves a long road trip.
