Ana María (Ía) Carbonell was born in Uruguay, grew up near Boston, and lives in the Bay Area, where she writes and teaches. Her work appears in Catamaran Literary Reader, Saranac Review, Acentos Review, Mom Egg Review, and elsewhere. Supported by a Ragdale residency and Center for Cultural Innovation Grant, her work has been a finalist for Tucson Festival of Books’ Literary Contest, the Shirley Holden Helberg Grant, and Adroit’s Anthony Veasna So Scholarship in Fiction. It was also longlisted for the Masters Review Emerging Writers Contest. Ana María lives in Berkeley with her musician husband and rescue pup.
