Durena Burns is a writer based in Southern California who delves in multiple genres including Black American fiction, historical fiction and science fiction. Burns holds a Bachelor’s degree in English, Creative Writing from California State University, Northridge. She has received The Lesley Johnstone Memorial Award, The Northridge Review Fiction Award, and The Oliver W. Evans Writing Prize in American Literature in 2025. Her published works include Duskbound Books (formerly Writing Bloc) anthologies titled Escape and Family with her short stories “I Wish It Happened” and “Together Again” respectively. Poems from Pomona Valley Review, “Afternoon Watch” and “Protection.” Finally, a short story from Northridge Review titled “Rapid.”
