Poetry Nonfiction

Kara Melissa (she/her), a transplant Tkarontonian -settler on stolen land—and mama of two (teens!), she provides free writing workshops for folks in need, in addition to disability advocacy work. She likes longish walks on the beach with her rescue pup, haunting literature with a twist, and the darkest of memoirs and humour. Her rescue dog, Jengibre, hails from Mexico City & sometimes understands Spanish. She holds an MFA in Creative Writing, Nonfiction, from Antioch University LA. She is a 2022 recipient of an AWP Intro Journals Project Award and was awarded a partial fellowship for a residency at Vermont Studio Centre in Jan 2025. You can find her work in Rejection Letters, HerStry, Mom Egg Review, The Manifest Station, The Calendula Review, Tampa Review, Today’s Parent, and elsewhere. Find out more at karamelissa.com.
