Dr. Randy Mackin is retired from Middle Tennessee State University where he taught writing and literature courses for thirty years, and from the Buffalo River Review, the weekly newspaper in his hometown of Linden, Tennessee, where he served as editor for over four decades. He is the author of the literary biography, George Scarbrough: Appalachian Poet (McFarland 2011), Dear Folks: Wartime Letters from Yeoman James C. Lovell, and The Summer They Finished the Road (a novella forthcoming from Finishing Line Press). He is a published poet, short fiction writer, and essayist. As a journalist, he is a four-time recipient of the Meeman Foundation/UT Press Institute award, has twice received a Tennessee School Board Association honor, and a National Newspaper Association award, all for editorial writing. He is co-founder and editor of Porchlight: A Journal of Southern Literature.
