Mary Burns Non-Member Joined 2024 Novelist, story writer, playwright.Fiction Nonfiction Born near Chicago, the fourth of eleven children, Mary Burns moved to Canada as part of the wave of Vietnam war resisters in the 1970's. She has long been a Canadian citizen. She worked as a journalist in the Yukon and northern BC before settling in Vancouver and teaching in the Writing and Publishing program at Simon Fraser University as well as at Douglas College where she served for 12 years as chair of the department. She has published four novels, two story collections, a non fiction book about snow geese, numerous individual stories that have been published or broadcast in Canada, the U.S., the U.K. and the EU, many radio plays and non-fiction pieces. She has two daughters and two grandchildren and lives on B.C.'s Sunshine Coast, specifically beautiful Grantham's Landing.
