PJ Patten is a poet, author, and illustrator based in Delta, BC, born to a Japanese mother and a Vietnam veteran father who met in Japan. His debut graphic memoir, Tower25 (Cloudscape Comics, 2020), is drawn from his own experience of homelessness and addiction recovery in Southern California, and has been featured by CBC. He also contributed to The Tashme Project, a graphic novel anthology on the WWII incarceration of Japanese Canadians. Working in sumi ink, acrylics, and digital illustration, Patten draws on the Haiga tradition of his Japanese grandparents to render difficult experience with restraint rather than spectacle. He was previously an artist resident with the Changing the Conversation Series.
