Poetry of identity, resistance, justice, and freed

Poetry

Zoila Morell is a Cuban-American bilingual poet and scholar with academic publications focused on bilingualism, immigration, and multilingual communities. A lifelong poet, she is now turning her attention more fully to creative writing and literary publication. Her poetry explores memory, bicultural identity, feminism, social justice, and the intersections of English and Spanish. Drawing inspiration from her Brooklyn upbringing and the natural landscapes of New York's Hudson Valley, her work examines injustice, inequality, and the search for personal and collective freedom. Through her poetry, she also deconstructs her evangelical Christian upbringing, exploring the tensions between inherited religious beliefs, humanism, and self-determination.
