I am an Emeritus Professor of Medicine at the University of Colorado with an international reputation based on an extensive bibliography of scientific manuscripts that have been published in highly peer-reviewed medical journals. I have also edited or co-edited 11 medical books two of which had third editions, three were translated into Spanish and one into Greek and one won first prize in the British Medical Association Medical Book Competition. This is my first attempt at writing for the lay public.
