William Torrey's writing has been supported by grants, fellowships and residencies from The Delaware Division of the Arts, the Mid-Atlantic Arts Foundation, the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, the Ellis-Beauregard Foundation and the Millay House Rockland. A recipient of a Pushcart Prize in Fiction, his stories and essays have appeared in The Missouri Review, Moon City Review, Longreads, The Beloit Fiction Journal, Salamander, Boulevard, The Southeast Review, River Teeth, The Florida Review, Colorado Review, Hobart, The North American Review, Washington Square, the Concho River Review, the Hawaii Review, New Madrid, and Zone 3. He teaches writing at Hampden-Sydney College and lives in Richmond with his wife and sons. His novella, Freedom of Movement, will be published in 2027 by Regal House Press.
