Brian A. Dixon is best known for his short fiction. His first published story, "The McMillen Golf Penalty," was awarded the Shannon Searles Fiction Prize by Connecticut Review in 2002. He is the author of an ongoing series of detective stories featuring expert arson investigator Dick Byrne. The Dick Byrne mysteries have featured in Alfred Hitchcock’s Mystery Magazine and Havok. Byrne's debut, “The Black Box,” was recognized as one of the thirty Best Private Eye Stories of the Year 2026 by editors S. J. Rozan and Michael Bracken.

Dixon is also a cultural studies scholar and media critic. He is the author of Sex for Dinner, Death for Breakfast: James Bond and the Body (2025) and has contributed to volumes such as Excavating Indiana Jones: Essays on the Films and Franchise (2020), Back to Frank Black: A Return to Chris Carter’s Millennium (2012), and Columbia & Britannia: An Alternate History (2009), nominated for the Sidewise Award for Alternate History.
