Grete Rachel Howland’s writing has appeared in Offerings, Tiny Buddha, Across the Margin, and the Fault Zone anthology. Grete’s first book, How to Leave the Church, was published by Apocryphile Press in 2024. She is currently working on her next book, a feminist reimagining of the Genesis creation myth told from Eve’s perspective, wherein God is the villain.

Grete earned a BA in English and Communication Studies from Westmont College, an MA in Theology from Fuller Theological Seminary, and an MA in Creative Writing and Literature for Educators from Fairleigh Dickinson University. She has taught writing to students in middle and high school as well as undergraduate and graduate programs. In 2026, Grete was chosen to attend the GoodWorld Journeys writers' salon in Patmos, Greece.

After living up and down the West Coast, Grete recently returned to her hometown of Santa Cruz, CA, with her partner and the thousand-ish books they have between them.
