Kari Wergeland, who hails from Davis, California, is a librarian and writer. She moved to Oregon at the age of 14 and eventually attended the University of Oregon, where she earned a BA in English. She holds an MLS in Librarianship from the University of Washington and an MFA in Creative Writing with an emphasis in poetry from Pacific University. Her work has appeared in over 100 journals and anthologies, including Atlanta Review, Catamaran Literary Reader, and The Fourth River. She once served as children’s book reviewer for The Seattle Times. In 2019, her chapbook, Breast Cancer: A Poem in Five Acts (Finishing Line Press) was named an Eric Hoffer Book Award finalist in the chapbook category. Her novella, Off the Wall (Finishing Line Press) was listed as a finalist in the novella category in both the 2024 International Book Awards and the 2024 American Fiction Awards. Meanwhile, her long library career has taken her into libraries up and down the West Coast.
